Norwich City’s plans to reshape their attack this January could be thrown into doubt after Bodø/Glimt’s shock qualification for the Champions League knockout phase play-off round – a development that may directly impact Josh Sargent’s future.

Kasper Högh, the Danish striker Norwich have identified as a key attacking reinforcement, played a central role in Bodø/Glimt’s unexpected European surge.

Högh scored three goals across eight Champions League league-phase matches, including a brace in a stunning 3-1 home win over Manchester City in the penultimate matchday, before adding another goal in a 1-2 away victory against Atlético Madrid to close the phase.

Earlier this week, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Norwich had submitted a package worth €8 million, including add-ons, for Högh, with negotiations ongoing between the two clubs. At the time, the move appeared feasible, with Bodø’s early European struggles reportedly opening the door for the 23-year-old to consider a January switch.

However, Bodø/Glimt’s sudden Champions League momentum may have changed the equation. It now seems unlikely Högh would willingly walk away from a potential career-defining tie against Real Madrid or Inter to join a Norwich side currently languishing 18th in the Championship, just three points above the relegation zone and 11 points off the play-off places.

Josh Sargent’s MLS move may be put on hold

The uncertainty has knock-on implications for Josh Sargent. The USMNT forward is pushing for an exit following a reported fallout with Norwich and has already turned down interest from Leeds United and Sunderland.

Sargent is understood to be holding out for a return to Major League Soccer, with Toronto FC emerging as his preferred destination.

Norwich’s pursuit of Högh had been seen as a key prerequisite for allowing Sargent to depart, ensuring adequate cover up front. With that move now in doubt, Sargent’s path away from Carrow Road looks increasingly complicated.
