Editorial Policy

How we report football.

Our standards for sourcing, fact-checking, AI use, conflicts of interest and the corrections process. These rules apply to every BB Sports News writer.

Last updated: Dec 04, 2026 · BB Media Ltd.

Sourcing standards

Every news claim is attributed to a named source where possible. If a source must be anonymous, we say so in the article and explain why. We do not publish rumours that originate from anonymous social media accounts.

  • Two independent sources required for any transfer claim involving a fee.
  • Quotes are not paraphrased into invented direct speech.
  • Press conference reporting is identified as such in the dek.
  • Wire copy is not used. Every story is original to the BB Sports News desk.

Fact-checking

Editors check every story for accuracy before it publishes. Match facts (scores, scorers, minutes) are double-checked against official league feeds. Statistical claims are verified against the data provider that underwrites our match centre.

Author standards

Every BB Sports News byline is a real person with a public profile, a verified social presence, and a documented football background. We do not publish pseudonymous writers. AI-generated bylines are forbidden.

Use of AI tools

AI tools may be used by writers as research assistants — to summarise press conferences, suggest headlines, or check spelling. AI is not permitted to write the body of an article, generate quotes, or replace a human editor’s judgement. Every published story is written and approved by a named human editor.

Conflicts of interest

Writers must disclose any financial, family or fan relationship with a club, player or organisation they cover. Disclosures are visible at the bottom of the relevant article. Writers may not bet on football and may not write about clubs they hold a financial interest in.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we correct it visibly at the top of the article with a timestamp and a description of the change. Minor typos may be corrected silently; factual changes are never silent.

Corrections policy
