Napoli host Roma on Sunday evening at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Serie A as competition at the top end of the Serie A table hots up. Both sides are in the top six any points taken off each other will be of the utmost value.

Napoli start the weekend in third, nine points behind league leaders Inter and three ahead of Roma in fifth place. Roma are level on points with Juventus in fourth spot but sixth-placed Como are only five points behind and have a game in hand.

How the teams go into the game: form

The hosts, Napoli, were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Como on penalties on Tuesday and won two and lost two in their four games prior to that.

Roma were already out of the Coppa Italia, having been defeated by a Che Adams-inspired Torino in January and were on Serie A duty on Monday, beating Cagliari. A loss away to Udinese the week before is their only defeat in their last five.

Napoli vs Roma: head-to-head

Roma have only beaten Napoli once in their last 10 meetings, with that victory coming back in December 2023. In the reverse fixture this season, Antonio Conte‘s side took all three points from their visit to Rome thanks to a David Neres goal sealing a 0-1 victory.

The home side have a host of injury concerns in addition to Juan Jesus’ suspension to deal with. Billy Gilmour remains a doubt with a groin injury, while compatriot Scott McTominay could join him on the sidelines with a thigh complaint that saw him miss the Como game. David Neres, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Kevin De Bruyne are also out.

For Gian Piero Gasperini‘s side, Irish striker Evan Ferguson is a doubt with a thigh injury, while Stephen El Shaarawy, Kouadio Koné and Artem Dovbyk will miss out.
