Arnaud Kalimuendo could yet have a future at Nottingham Forest despite uncertainty surrounding his current loan spell in Germany.
The striker is currently on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he has impressed with his performances and goalscoring contributions. However, reports suggest the Bundesliga side are unlikely to make the move permanent.
Frankfurt hold a purchase option worth €27 million, but according to BILD, that figure is considered too high, meaning a summer return to England is now the most likely outcome.
Forest still see Kalimuendo as part of long-term plans
Despite his temporary move away, Forest remain closely connected to the player and have not ruled out reintegrating him into the squad.
Loan manager Owen Coyle Jr spoke positively about Kalimuendo’s attitude and ongoing relationship with the club.
“He has gone over there, he is performing, he is scoring goals but he is still very positive about his relationship with Forest,” Coyle told The Athletic.
“He talks to the other players regularly. He has been back to watch games.
“He is heavily invested in Forest. He will return in the summer and we will see where his future lies at Forest, within the squad plan.”
Forest signed Kalimuendo from Stade Rennais last summer for around £26 million (approximately €30 million), but his first months at the club were far from straightforward.
A period of instability at the start of the season instantly scuppered Kalimuendo’s opportunities. First, Nuno Espírito Santo was sacked, then Ange Postecoglou came in for a short spell, before Sean Dyche took charge.
That lack of continuity ultimately led to his January loan move in search of regular football.
Now under Vítor Pereira, Forest’s immediate focus remains on Premier League survival, which could play a key role in shaping their summer transfer plans.
With Kalimuendo set to return and Frankfurt unlikely to meet the asking price, his future at the City Ground remains open but clearly still part of the conversation.
