Arne Slot refuses to confirm Mohamed Salah farewell appearance

The Liverpool head coach gave his final pre-match press conference of the season before the Reds’ match against Brentford

Liverpool head into the final day of the Premier League season against Brentford with the objective of wrapping up a top five finish that would see them qualify for the Champions League.

Head coach Arne Slot spoke to the press on Friday, where the main topic of discussion was not about the game itself but rather about Mohamed Salah.

Sunday will be the last match before the Egyptian departs Liverpool but the veteran made some eyebrow-raising comments last week on social media, where he seemed to call out the Dutchman’s style of play.

Asked for his view on the situation, Slot preferred to focus on the upcoming game.

“I don’t think it is important what I feel. What is [important] is that we qualify for the Champions League,” Slot said.

“So I prepare Mo and the rest of the team to be ready. I was disappointed after Villa, a win would’ve given us qualification, now there is one game to go and it is vital.

Liverpool fans are hoping to give Salah a huge sendoff after nine glorious years with the club, but Slot could not confirm whether he would be playing.

“I never say anything about team selection, so I won’t do that now. There are a lot of ifs, but we know what we need Sunday.

“I think we would like to give our fans a nice way to end the season, because we have had too many disappointments for us and the club and the fans and staff and players.

“We want to end with a win. Brentford play for something important as well. We want to be in the best possible place.”

Slot positive over Alisson and Isak

Slot provided injury updates on goalkeeper Alisson Becker and striker Alexander Isak, stating that both are making progress, although he did not reveal whether they would be fit to start.

“Alisson will train with us today, Isak does parts of what we do, so to a certain extent, both are positive,” he said.
