Arsenal injury news ahead of PSG final: Timber, Madueke, Merino

The Gunners are set to face the reigning Champions League winners on Saturday as they look to complete the double after winning the Premier League title

Arsenal have received a positive injury update ahead of the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday in Budapest.

Fresh off securing the Premier League trophy for the first time since the Invincibles era, the Gunners are set to focus all their efforts on completing a double by winning the first Champions League title in club history.

Their 2-1 victory away at Crystal Palace came at a cost, as backup winger Noni Madueke was forced off the pitch on Sunday at Selhurst Park.

However, according to The Athletic, the England international is expected to be fit after avoiding an injury that could have cost him his participation in Saturday’s decider.

Merino returns but Timber still a doubt

At Palace, Mikel Arteta had the opportunity to give some playing time to Mikel Mireno, who has recovered from an injury that had sidelined him since late January.

The Spain international came off the bench just after the hour mark to help the visitors end the Premier League season with a well-earned victory.

Yet, the Arsenal boss is still uncertain whether Jurriën Timber will be available for selection against PSG.

“Jurrien, let’s hope he can do the same [as Merino] in the next few days,” Arteta said last week. “But he’s still a little further behind Mikel at that moment.”

The Dutch right-back hasn’t featured in a single game since picking up an injury back in mid-March.

“There’s hope, but like I said, we’ll see,” Timber told Standard Sport when asked if he could take part in the final.

“I’m working really hard, I’m trying really hard, and obviously playing in the Champions League final is a dream.

“So I will give everything, and with the World Cup as well, but obviously, first the Champions League final. It’s going to be amazing anyway.”

Meanwhile, Ben White remains unavailable after suffering a season-ending injury against West Ham earlier this month.

“Further to Sunday’s match at West Ham United, subsequent assessments and specialist reviews have confirmed that Ben White has sustained a significant medial knee ligament injury, which will rule him out for the remainder of this season,” Arsenal announced.

“Our medical team are now managing Ben’s recovery and rehabilitation programme, with everyone fully focused on supporting the aim of Ben being ready for the start of our pre-season preparations.”
