FC Barcelona confirm that their star man will miss the remainder of the season after an injury sustained during Wednesday’s win over Celta Vigo

FC Barcelona have confirmed that Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the 2025/26 season after picking up a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo.

The 18-year-old won and scored the penalty that decided the match at Camp Nou, but immediately signalled for a substitution after the successful conversion of the spot-kick.

The celebrations around the Camp Nou quickly fell to near complete silence as Yamal lay on the ground, with fans fearing the worst with five crucial matches remaining.

Barcelona managed to hold on for a crucial three points but, on Thursday afternoon, the club confirmed that Yamal would not appear in Blaugrana again this season.

“The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle). The player will follow a conservative treatment plan,” a club statement wrote.

“Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup.”

Will Lamine Yamal go to the World Cup?

As things stand, Lamine Yamal is expected to make it to the World Cup with Spain, based off of the statement made by Barcelona.

The format of this summer’s World Cup – hosted in the United States, Mexico and Canada – will go on for a few weeks longer than usual due to the expanded 48-team format. This means that, even if Yamal were to miss a part of the group stage, qualification for a team like Spain is almost a formality as the top three teams qualify for the next round.

The business end of the World Cup starts towards the end of June, giving the teenager approximately two months to be back in action, something that is seen as realistic based on the nature of the injury.
