Harry Kane returns to training as Vincent Kompany offers hope ahead of Bayern’s clash with Real Madrid

Bayern Munich travel to face Real Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday night in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, with major focus on the fitness of Harry Kane.

The England captain picked up an ankle issue during the recent international break and was subsequently ruled out of Bayern’s dramatic 3-2 Bundesliga win over Freiburg at the weekend. His absence immediately raised concerns given his importance to the side.

Kane has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 31 goals in just 26 league appearances, and is firmly the focal point of Bayern’s attack heading into the latter stages of the campaign.

However, there has been a significant boost ahead of the trip to Madrid. On Monday, Kane returned to team training at Säbener Straße, taking part in the opening stages of the final session before departure. During the 15 minutes open to the media, he showed no visible discomfort, moving freely through warm-ups, passing drills and sprint work.

The positive signs continued as Kane was later seen boarding the team flight to Madrid, further increasing optimism that he could feature at the Bernabéu.

According to reports, a final decision on whether he will start, just days after withdrawing from England duty, will be made late.

Head coach Vincent Kompany also struck an encouraging tone in his pre-match press conference.

“We’ll wait until tomorrow,” he said

“The important thing is that Harry Kane has been working hard these last few days. We have a very good squad for the match. The most important thing for us right now is that Harry is available.”

While Bayern have shown they can cope without their star striker, having him fit – even if not fully – would be a major boost as they look to take control of the tie against the 15-time European champions.
