Luka Vušković’s rapid rise continues to turn heads across Europe, and Tottenham may already be facing an uphill battle to keep hold of one of their most exciting young prospects. Despite never having played a competitive match for Spurs, the 18-year-old defender is making a huge impression during his loan spell at Hamburger SV, where his performances have sparked major interest from elite clubs.

The Croatian centre-back recently caught the eye with an assured display against Bayern Munich, showing composure and intelligence well beyond his years.

His reading of the game, including a perfectly timed offside trap on former Spurs legend Harry Kane, drew widespread praise and underlined why he is now considered one of the most promising defenders in Europe.

After his growing reputation was established, former Barcelona and Croatia star Ivan Rakitić weighed in with strong words of admiration. Speaking to Sky Sport Germany, Rakitić made it clear just how highly he rates the Tottenham-owned youngster.

“All of European football is talking about him right now,” Rakitić told Sky Sport Germany. “FC Bayern need to step up their game. I believe the boy has to go to Bayern. It’s incredibly wonderful to see such a young guy shake up the footballing world like this.”

Tottenham facing an early dilemma

Rakitić’s comments will not go unnoticed in north London. Vušković joined Tottenham as a long-term investment, but his development at Hamburg has been so rapid that questions are already being asked about whether Spurs can realistically keep him.

“I’m curious to see if Tottenham will manage to keep him beyond the summer,” Rakitić admitted via Sky Sport Germany. “In my opinion, he’s already ready for the next step at one of the absolute top clubs. For me, there are only four or five of those in Europe.”

The 37-year-old also highlighted the foundations behind Vušković’s rise, praising both his mentality and support system.

“This is no coincidence,” Rakitić added. “The boy and his family are doing so many things right. They work incredibly hard. He has everything it takes to become one of the best centre-backs. If he keeps pushing himself, Croatia could have a top defender for the next ten or fifteen years.”

Rakitić also noted the pride felt back home, explaining that Vušković enjoys strong backing from Croatia, particularly from Hajduk Split, where his journey began.

With Bayern Munich now openly linked through influential voices, Tottenham may soon have to decide whether their prized youngster is part of their future—or already destined for Europe’s elite.
