Mohamed Salah is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield.
During his time on Merseyside, Salah has cemented himself as one of the club’s all-time greats, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and multiple individual honours.
He remains Liverpool’s top scorer in Premier League history and sits third on their all-time goalscoring list.
Despite signing a two-year extension in the summer of 2025, his relationship with head coach Arne Slot has soured this season following a series of omissions from the starting line-up. As a result, attention has quickly turned to what comes next.
A move to Major League Soccer has emerged as a strong possibility, with the league often attracting global stars in the later stages of their careers, from David Beckham‘s move to LA Galaxy at the start of this century, to Leo Messi joining Inter Miami more recently.
However, Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan has warned that such a move could come at a cost to Salah’s global profile.
“Personally, I’d prefer him to stay in Europe,” Hassan told On Sports. “I’ve heard about offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and clubs in the Italian league.”

Hassan was particularly critical of the idea of Salah moving to the United States, claiming that he would become forgotten in MLS.
“A move to Major League Soccer? He’d be too far out of the spotlight. No one will remember Salah anymore, just like I don’t remember Lionel Messi; I don’t even try to watch him play.”
Hassan suggested that if Salah does leave Europe, the Saudi Pro League could be a more suitable destination.
“If he doesn’t receive offers from Europe, a move to the Saudi league would be a good option, especially with big names like Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Salah is unlikely to be short of offers this summer when he leaves Liverpool. The key decision now is whether he continues competing at the highest level in Europe or opts for a lucrative move in a less demanding league.
