Vinícius Júnior speaks out after Monaco win: I don’t want to be booed at home

The Brazilian winger addressed recent criticism from the Bernabéu after being booed in recent matches

Vinícius Júnior used Real Madrid’s 6-1 victory over Monaco in the Champions League on Tuesday to deliver a clear and direct message. The Brazilian winger tied his performance to the team’s collective rhythm, insisting that fluid movement and control are what allow him to influence games at his highest level.

Vinícius acknowledged that the days leading up to the Monaco match had been emotionally draining, shaped by criticism, speculation, and a growing tension with sections of the home crowd.

“We went in very focused, moving the ball from side to side,” he told Movistar+. “That way I can touch the ball a lot, and that’s the best thing for me.

“The last few days have been very difficult because of the boos. I’m always at the centre of everything, and I don’t want to be there because of things off the field. I want to be there because of what I’ve done for this club.”

Vinícius on boos and expectations

Vinícius went further, opening up about how recent events have affected him personally. Xabi Alonso’s departure, defeat in the Supercopa de España final, and elimination from the Copa del Rey combined to create a difficult emotional backdrop.

“Playing for the biggest club in the world is very difficult, the demands are extremely high,” he added.

“I don’t want to be booed at home, where I feel very comfortable. In recent games, I didn’t feel comfortable because every time I did something wrong, they booed me.

“I know my potential, I know what I can achieve. I’m here to continue developing and always fight for this club.

“I won’t always be at my best technically, but I’ve always given my all. If others are lacking in goals, I try to assist; if I have to defend, I try to defend.”

Vinícius went on to address the Real Madrid supporters directly, calling for collective backing as the season continues.

“At home, we need the support of our fans so that everything can return to normal. We want to win, and so do they. If we stick together, this season will be better,” he noted.

Los Blancos cruised past Monaco on Tuesday night, as Kylian Mbappé netted a brace before the break, with Vinícius, Franco Mastantuono and Jude Bellingham scoring one each in the second half.

Having won five of their seven Champions League games so far, Real Madrid will look to clinch a top-eight spot in the last round of the League Phase.
