Evangelos Marinakis seals another coup: Clayton signing follows André Luiz

The Brazilian striker is set to join forces with his compatriot after standing out at Rio Ave with 10 goals in 19 games this term

Evangelos Marinakis’ Olympiacos have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Clayton from Rio Ave, with the 27-year-old having arrived in Greece late on Sunday as the club finalise their plans to reshape their attacking line.

Clayton has been identified for several days as the player chosen to fill the gap left by Roman Yaremchuk, who joined Lyon on loan, in Olympiacos’ attacking options.

The Brazilian arrives with strong numbers from Portugal and a clear brief to provide immediate impact.

The striker joins from Rio Ave, where he has enjoyed an impressive campaign. In 19 appearances across all competitions this season, Clayton has scored 10 goals and provided 4 assists, establishing himself as one of the most productive forwards in the Portuguese league.

Those statistics have played a decisive role in Olympiacos’ decision to move quickly and secure his signature.

Olympiacos transfer plans take shape

Clayton’s arrival is part of a wider plan being executed by Olympiacos during the current transfer window. The club have already moved to strengthen the wide areas, completing and announcing the signing of winger André Luiz last week.

Beyond the forward line, Olympiacos are continuing to assess further reinforcements. There remains scope for the addition of a centre-back and a wing-back.

There is also some consideration being given to adding an extra midfielder, although that is viewed as a lower priority at this stage.

Clayton has already expressed his enthusiasm about the move and the challenge ahead, making clear his ambition to replicate his scoring form in Greece.
